Opinions Needed!

How does everyone feel about the "Diary of A Gunner" currently running on UMED, including the disclaimer? I have gotten complaints from members of our class who think it is offensive and portrays the UMED students poorly, since UMED is publicly accessible. I need some more opinions though - what do you think?

I think it makes medical students in general seem snobby. I was particulary bothered by the part that talks about having to associate with other health care students. That is definately not the impression we want to give to our collegues.

I think the disclaimer actually made things worse. It would offend people who don't find it funny even further.

I am not a fan myself.

"Doctors are men [and women] who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less in human beings of whom they know nothing." --Voltaire

I think we would all like to defeat this stereotype. The steps we take backwards from achieving this goal are not worth the opportunity to be funny.

Don't get me wrong, I love comedy. I think we all do. I just believe in two little things called tact and respect.

As a potential patient myself, I think any doctor who thinks, acts, or talks like the writer of this diary can go put a stick up his own "caudal end."

Another vote for removing it, or at least not inserting it in such a prominent position on the page. My main concern is the potential to offend other health care professionals and create divisions, as others have mentioned. And I have no problem with good medical humor. These comic strips, for example.
